VICTOR Osimhen netted the only goal for Galatasaray in their 1-0 UEFA Champions League victory over Liverpool in Istanbul tonight to become Nigeria’s all-time top scorer in the competition.

The Super Eagles striker returned to the starting line-up from injury to score from the penalty spot in the 16th minute as Galatasaray secured their first win in the competition this season after a 5-1 humiliation by Eintracht Frankfurt two weeks ago.

With the strike, Osimhen took his UEFA Champions League tally to 10 goals, surpassing Obafemi Martins who had nine.

Osimhen, who missed three Turkish Super Lig and Champions League games with a sprained ankle after the last international break and played only five minutes at the weekend, was substituted off in the 72nd minute, moments after going down with a knock.

The result means a second consecutive defeat for Liverpool in all competitions, following their 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

In another Champions League clash tonight, Chelsea held off Benfica at Stamford Bridge to win 1-0 and spoil Jose Mourinho’s return to the club with the Portuguese side.

Richard Rios’ own goal in the 18th minute settled the match for Chelsea as they bounced back from their opening week defeat at Bayern Munich.

In other Champions League fixtures on the night, Tottenham Hotspur came from 2-0 down to hold Bodoe/Glimt to a 2-2 draw in Norway, Inter Milan thrashed Slavia Prague and Marseille pummelled Ajax 4-0 in France.
