A 32-year-old male nurse has succumbed to the Ebola virus, marking Uganda’s eighth recorded outbreak of the disease since the year 2000.

According to Uganda’s Ministry of Health, the nurse exhibited severe symptoms, including high fever, chest pain, difficulty breathing, and bleeding from multiple body sites. He died from multi-organ failure on Wednesday at Mulago National Hospital.

Health officials revealed that in the days preceding his death, the nurse visited multiple health facilities and consulted a traditional healer, which delayed diagnosis and may have exposed others to the deadly virus.

The outbreak is attributed to the Sudan Ebola Virus Disease (SUDV), a highly infectious and lethal strain of the Ebola virus. The Ministry of Health has urged the public to remain vigilant and adhere to preventive measures to curb the spread of the disease.

Authorities are now conducting contact tracing and surveillance to prevent further transmissions. The public has been advised to report any symptoms promptly and avoid direct contact with suspected cases.

This latest outbreak highlights the ongoing threat of Ebola in Uganda and the need for swift interventions to contain the virus.
