Ultimate Wolverine Is Getting His Long Overdue Revenge

Revenge is a dish best served cold, and Ultimate Wolverine is about to dig into a feast Marvel has kept on ice forever. Most versions of Wolverine never get the satisfaction of confronting the person who turned them into a monster, but the Ultimate incarnation of Logan is on the verge of getting justice for what was done to him.

ComicWatch shared an exclusive preview for Ultimate Wolverine #12, written by Chris Condon, with art by Alessandro Cappuccio.

After last issue’s devastating destruction of the Mutant Opposition, Logan has nothing left to lose as he confronts the villains of the Eurasian Republic, including Dr. Alonya Prostovich, the architect of his worst traumas.

At the start of Ultimate Wolverine, Logan was brainwashed into becoming an assassin for the Eurasian Republic, led by villainous versions of X-Men characters Magik and Colossus. Wolverine’s personal antagonist all along, though, has been Dr. Alonya Prostovich, who reprogrammed the hero into a mindless killer and sent him to murder his allies in the Mutant Opposition.

So, as Wolverine mounts one final, desperate solo mission to decapitate the Eurasian leadership, he does so for the good of the world. First, however, he’s going to take out Dr. Prostovich, as a matter of personal vengeance for himself, and the members of the Opposition, who were wiped out last issue.

That’s where the preview for Ultimate Wolverine #12 leaves off, with Prostovich in Wolverine’s clutches. Unless she manages to escape somehow, he’s on the verge of enacting the kind of direct revenge that has eluded the mainstream continuity version of the hero, as well as the cinematic incarnation of the character.

In Marvel’s main canon, Dr. Prostovich’s closest analog, Dr. Abraham Cornelius, managed to escape a direct confrontation with Logan. Instead, he died at the hands of the character Maverick instead. Wolverine has gotten his revenge on Cornelius in at least one non-canon story, but not in a way as narratively cathartic as Ultimate Wolverine is in position to deliver.

Part of what makes the original Wolverine such a dramatically potent character is that he is tortured by the uncertainties of his origin, the gaps in his past, the lack of resolution to his traumas. It is arguably key to the character. From the start, Ultimate Wolverine has been a more consolidated version of the hero’s journey.

Giving Dr. Prostovich a moment of reckoning feels like a natural beat for the story to hit. With just a few issues left, Ultimate Wolverine could still subvert that expectation, and deny its hero that resolution, but if it delivers, it will be a well-earned moment that stands out as a noteworthy moment in Wolverine lore.

Ultimate Wolverine #12 will be available December 10, 2025 from Marvel Comics.
