The University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, has announced a ban on the use of its campus, including hostels and other facilities, for video recording and film production without prior approval.
The decision was made public in a statement released on Tuesday by the university’s Head of Communication, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem.
She explained that the institution is concerned about the growing practice of individuals filming skits, movies, and other online content within school premises without official authorization.
According to the management, the restriction is intended to protect the university’s image and maintain a focused academic environment.
It stated that only approved productions that align with the institution’s values and policies would be allowed to take place on campus.
UNILAG also reminded students, staff, and external collaborators that there are laid-down procedures for content production within its premises.
Anyone wishing to film must first obtain permission from the Communications Unit to ensure that the process upholds order and safety.
While the university acknowledged the creativity of young people and the rising popularity of content creation, it maintained that all activities must respect institutional rules.
Members of the university community and the public were urged to comply with the directive to avoid sanctions.
The ban comes at a time when university environments across Nigeria have become popular spots for social media skits and short films.
UNILAG itself has produced several well-known content creators, including Brain Jotter and Muhammed Gilmore, who both graduated from the institution in recent years.
