There is pandemonium at the Lagos State House of Assembly as former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, accompanied by some loyal lawmakers, armed policemen and miscreants, forcibly broke into the speaker’s office.

Two of the 39 lawmakers, Ayinde Akinsanya (Osmak) from Mushin Constituency I and Noheem Adams from Mushin Constituency II, were seen with Obasa at the Assembly complex while the incident unfolded.

As tensions escalated, Obasa’s loyalists managed to force open the doors to the Speaker’s office, causing chaos inside the Assembly.

The incident follows reports that the security details of the current Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, had been abruptly withdrawn, while Obasa’s own security personnel were restored. The dramatic shift in security arrangements has fueled further tension and confusion within the legislative body.

In addition to the office break-in, access roads to the complex were blocked by individuals believed to be Obasa’s supporters, causing significant traffic disruptions. Many of them gathered at the gates chanting, “Bola, on your mandate we shall stand,” a popular slogan used in support of President Bola Tinubu.

Motorists were forced to find alternative routes as all entrances were shut off. The situation has left staff, lawmakers, and the public in a state of uncertainty, as the power struggle within the Assembly continues to escalate.
