This decision was made in response to a motion raised by Senator Ali Ndume regarding the suicide attacks in Gwoza, Borno State, emphasizing the critical need to combat this troubling trend. During the discussion, Senator Adams Oshiomhole suggested an additional request, proposing that the Senate not only allocate more funds to the Army but also closely monitor the procurement process. He highlighted the necessity of this step due to the actions of past service chiefs who allegedly misallocated public funds intended for security equipment and technology towards other purposes like university construction and yacht acquisition. Subsequently, when a voice vote was conducted, the majority of lawmakers rejected the additional request. The Senate then urged the Federal Government to direct security agencies to intensify efforts in securing areas prone to insurgency, such as the Lake Chad Region, Sambisa Forest, and Mandara Mountains. The recent suicide bombings during an attack on public spaces last Saturday in Borno resulted in the loss of over 30 lives and numerous injuries.
