Veteran Actor, Chief Kanran To Be Buried In Lagos Today

The family of veteran Nollywood actor, Olusegun Akinremi, popularly known as Chief Kanran, has announced that he will be laid to rest on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Beckley Estate, Abule Egba, Lagos State.

According to the obituary released by the family on Thursday, the funeral activities will begin with a wake-keep and artistic night on Thursday, September 11, starting at 8 p.m.

The burial service will take place the following day, Friday, September 12, at Beckley Estate, after which interment will follow.

Chief Kanran passed away on August 15, 2025, at the age of 70. Movie executive and producer Seun Oloketuyi announced his death in an Instagram post.

He wrote, “Popular actor Segun Remi, popularly known as Chief Kanran, died Friday morning. Details soon.”

Naijaonpoint recalls that Oloketuyi, in an update, said the film star slumped and died instantly in his bathroom at home, stressing that he has been managing high Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).

He wrote, “How Chief Kanra died. Segun Remi this afternoon slumped in the bathroom and died instantly. Close family sources confirm to us that Chief Kanra was 62 and would have been 63 next month will be buried next month.

“He was said to be managing HBP. His death in his residence, Meran, was shocked many people because he was active. In fact, he still granted interview last week”

Chief Kanran was a household name in the Yoruba film industry, celebrated for his distinctive style, refined elegance, love for luxury, sharp humour, and commanding stage presence.

His decades-long career spanned stage plays and movies, earning him respect as one of the most recognisable figures in Nollywood.
