Former Abia governor, Orji Kalu, has dismissed speculations that he purchased his multimillion-dollar mansion in Potoma, Maryland, USA during his time in office.

Over the weekend, a video of Kalu taking a man on a property tour made the rounds on social media.

The man taking the tour mentioned that the former governor also has houses in Texas, North Carolina, and the United Kingdom.

He stated that the House in Potomac faces the popular River Potomac and is a prime property with other wealthy people residing in the area.

After the video went viral, some Nigerians accused the former Senate Chief Whip of purchasing the house with money he embezzled while in office.

Reacting to the allegation, Kalu stated in a video he released today, September 10, that the mansion had been purchased before he became governor of Abia state.

He said, ‘’I own a house in Boston, Massachusett and I sold it and put the money to buy where I live now in Washington, DC. It was the same house Obasanjo was hailing when I was governor in 2003, and the US authorities came and looked at it when Bush was President.

“I bought the house before I became governor because it was proceeds from the house in Mattapan, Boston that I used in buying the house and it was properly declared in my asset declaration. The houses are in my name. I never bought it to hide from anybody that I own a house. I bought it in 2003”
