Chaos erupted at the Lagos airport after a female passenger disrupted a flight, reportedly assaulted a flight attendant, and clashed with airport security officials.
The incident, captured in several videos shared on X, showed the visibly enraged passenger on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos on Sunday.
In one of the clips, filmed aboard the plane, the passenger—after putting back on a missing wig—jabbed a flight attendant’s head with her finger, shouting, “What did you do?”
“She is hitting me,” the attendant calmly replied.
Another video showed the same passenger, now off the aircraft, yelling at a group of airport security personnel, swatting away cameras, and lunging at people trying to restrain her. Her voice, barely audible amid the commotion, carried a tone of fury and frustration.
Those recording the scene claimed she had earlier slapped a crew member. The passenger’s shirt appeared visibly torn. Eventually, security officials overpowered her and bundled her into a waiting airport bus.
Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), attributed the outburst to the passenger’s refusal to obey flight protocols.
“When cabin crew ask you to turn off your phone before takeoff/landing, simply comply. I can’t understand why simple routine issues would lead to incidents like this,” he tweeted in reaction to the videos.
“Passengers need to understand that they have responsibilities, not just rights.”
Achimugu added that the matter would be addressed on Monday as more details emerged.
Earlier this month, on August 5, the NCAA suspended two ValueJet pilots over a safety breach at Abuja’s domestic airport. The incident stemmed from KWAM 1’s disorderly conduct, which led to the suspension.
The agency also imposed an indefinite travel ban on the celebrity—a revision from the initial six-month sanction—pending the conclusion of investigations into the altercation.
