Popular media personality, Taribio Walson Oweifawari, who was on the Warri-Itakpe train when it derailed on Thursday has recounted the terrifying experience.

NaijaOnPoint.com.ng (NOP) reports the Warri-Itakpe train derailed in a frightening incident that caused panic among passengers.

The train was travelling from Itakpe in Kogi State to Ujevwu in Delta State when the bizarre incident happened.

Narrating the terrifying experience, Oweifawari wrote on Facebook: “My flight to Yenagoa from Abuja on United Nigeria was cancelled, even before I left Yenagoa.

“So, after the Port Harcourt own to Abuja was also cancelled at short notice, I decided to do return trip with the train.

“On our way back today [Thursday] this is what happened. My coach is VIP and it is Coach 1. The coach immediately after ours is Coach 2 and it derailed.

“Hai!!! I just kept shouting Jesus when it looked like ours was going to tumble. Just a little bit more, that coach would have fallen off the high point, and taking our coach with it”.

While details of the incident are still sketchy at the time of filing this report, it was gathered that all passengers and crew members notwithstanding arrived at their various destinations safely.

According to Oweifawari, a broadcaster with Radio Bayelsa, she reached home at 12 midnight.

NOP had gathered that the train on one trip had earlier overshot a station it was supposed to stop due to brake failure.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed the development and announced the suspension of normal commercial operations on the Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS) route.
