Vigilantes Repel Bandit Attack On Kogi Community

Map of Kogi State Nigeria

A group of armed bandits attempted to invade Odorum in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State in the early hours of Monday, but were forced to retreat after encountering stiff resistance from local vigilantes.

Sources familiar with the incident who spoke with Sahara Reporters said the attackers were repelled after a brief but intense exchange, crediting the Egbe Vigilante Team for a swift and coordinated response.

The prompt reaction, residents said, prevented what could have been a major security breach in the community.

Early assessments indicate that there were no casualties, and the vigilantes succeeded in securing the area.

The attempted attack comes a week after SaharaReporters reported the abduction of a timber supplier and one of his workers in Okoloke, also in Yagba West.

The victims were said to have been seized while working on a farm when gunmen stormed the area, shooting sporadically and scattering the workers into the bush.

A labourer who narrowly escaped told community members that the gunmen overpowered the timber dealer and his staff before taking them into the forest.

Communities across Yagba East and Yagba West LGAs, particularly those bordering Kwara State, have been grappling with an alarming surge in kidnappings, armed attacks, and other violent crimes in recent months.
