Visa war: If U.S. wants Nigerians’ social media accounts, we should ask for theirs too – Shehu Sani backs FG

Senator Shehu Sani, former lawmaker representing Kaduna central, has backed the Nigerian government’s plan to demand the social media accounts of American citizens in response to similar requirements by the United States.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Sani said the move would ensure a level playing field in how both countries gather information about each other.

His words: “The US demands social media accounts of Nigerians; it’s fair that Nigeria should also demand social media account of Americans.

“They want to know our views about them, we need to know their views about us.”

Sani was reacting to the continued policy of the US government, which mandates visa applicants to provide their social media handles as part of the screening process.
