THE Falconets of Nigeria opened their campaign at the 2025 WAFU Girls Cup in Benin Republic with a 3-1 victory over Ghana today.
The Black Princesses are the defending champions of the sub-regional competition, but they were totally outplayed by the Falconets in Adjohoun.
Two goals from Janet Akeremkowei and another strike from Favour Nkwocha sealed victory for the Falconets.
Sarah Nyarko got a goal for the Black Princesses, but it was not enough to avoid defeat from their fierce rivals.
Akeremkowei set the Falconets on their way to victory eight minutes before half-time, converting a penalty.
She extended the Nigerian side’s lead in first-half stoppage time to compete her brace.
Nyarko pulled one back for Ghana five minutes after the restart, giving them hope of a fightback.
But Chiamaka netted two mimutes from time to ensure victory for the two-time FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup runners-up.
