Wale Tinubu lauds Femi Otedola, Tony Elumelu as exceptional investors, hails Seplat, Geregu transactions

By Kunle Sanni –

Group Chief Executive Officer of Oando Plc, Wale Tinubu, has praised billionaires Femi Otedola and Tony Elumelu for what he described as exceptional investment decisions, citing recent transactions involving Geregu Power Plc and Seplat Energy as landmark deals that signal strong investor confidence at the start of 2026.

Reflecting on the first week of work in the new year, Tinubu said the transactions had already set a positive tone for Nigeria’s corporate and investment landscape.

Commenting on Otedola’s divestment from Geregu Power, Tinubu described the move as a masterclass in strategic investing. He noted that the Geregu exit transformed an initial investment in the power sector into a landmark deal while also allowing Otedola to deepen his position in the banking sector.

According to Tinubu, the transaction demonstrated a clear understanding of market timing and capital reallocation.

“The mark of an exceptional investor is not simply in making an investment, but in knowing when to exit,” Tinubu said, adding that Otedola executed the deal “in spectacular fashion.”

Tinubu also commended Tony Elumelu’s acquisition of a significant stake in Seplat Energy, describing it as a long-term and deliberate bet on African capacity, ownership, and governance.

He said Elumelu’s move reflects confidence in homegrown leadership within Africa’s energy sector and a belief that the continent’s energy future should increasingly be shaped by those who live and invest locally.

“These are exceptional deals that set the tone not just for the year ahead, but for how value is truly created,” Tinubu said.
