Only a few months after the infamous 2025 film, War of the Worlds is getting a sequel. However, much to fans’ assured relief, this new addition to War of the Worlds canon will have little to do with that movie and will actually be a sequel to the original story.
Titan Comics announced an all-new comic series titled War of the Worlds: Thunder Child. The series will follow the crew of the HMS Thunder Child (a torpedo ram) as they embark on their heroic mission against the alien invaders during the events of H.G. Wells’ original novel.
The creative team behind this new project, writers Matthew Hardy and Rob Jones, and artist Kevin Castaniero, spoke about their excitement for War of the Worlds: Thunder Child, as well as how they believe this sequel series enhances the timeless classic.
Rob Jones: We set out to make this both a contemporary piece that could be accessible to new readers whilst also something that fans of the book, the musical, or any other adaptation of Wells’ work would enjoy.
Matthew Hardy: Kevin Castaniero’s detailed, sometimes brutal art and his ability to convey the painful emotions have elevated the impact of our story and its power to resonate with readers.
War of the Worlds: Thunder Child by Titan Comics is available in June 2026.
New World of the Worlds Sequel is Perfect for New and Old Fans
As Rob Jones expressed, the goal of Thunder Child is to give every kind of fan the opportunity to enjoy the universe of War of the Worlds equally. Some might have been fans of the original novel for years, while others might have been introduced to it by Ice Cube.
No matter how familiar fans are with the source material, War of the Worlds: Thunder Child promises to be both an easy jumping-on point for new fans of the franchise, while simultaneously being an epic continuation more than a century in the making.
Additionally, Thunder Child presents a fresh perspective on the original War of the Worlds story through Kevin Castaniero’s artwork, as the preview above illustrates perfectly. Old fans will be immersed in the story like never before, and new fans are sure to be engrossed in every page.
War of the Worlds: Thunder Child Could Help Redeem the 2025 Film
Ice Cube’s War of the Worlds isn’t exactly a flawless film, as its incredibly low Rotten Tomatoes score proves. However, if War of the Worlds: Thunder Child is later adapted into a live-action movie with Ice Cube reprising his role, it could potentially redeem this seemingly doomed live-action franchise.
However, regardless of a potential live-action adaptation of War of the Worlds: Thunder Child, readers should be very excited about the upcoming comic series from Titan Comics, as it promises to be an epic sequel to the original War of the Worlds that every fan is sure to love.
