Ward Executives Suspend PDP Secretary in Borno

The Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Borno State, Aliyu Abubakar Aliyu, has been suspended by the leadership of his home ward, Zarawuyaku Ward, in Biu Local Government Area (LGA).

The ward executives accused Aliyu of engaging in anti-party activities and failing to meet key party requirements.

The decision to suspend Aliyu was announced after an emergency meeting held by the Zarawuyaku Ward Executive Council. The meeting, chaired by the Ward Chairman, Yunusa Mohammed, resulted in 13 out of the 17 executives signing a resolution to pass a vote of no confidence against the state secretary.

The ward executives claimed that Aliyu failed to mobilize support for the party during the 2023 general elections. They alleged that he did not participate in campaign rallies and was absent during crucial political activities meant to strengthen the PDP in the ward.

“Having reviewed the Presidential and National Assembly elections of February 25, 2023, as well as the governorship and State House of Assembly elections held on March 11, 2023, we observed with utmost dismay that Aliyu Abubakar Aliyu, the PDP State Secretary, worked against the party’s success in Zarawuyaku Ward,” the statement from the ward leadership read.

The executives further alleged that Aliyu did not possess a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) registered within Zarawuyaku Ward. This, they claimed, violated Section 8, Subsection 9 of the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended). Additionally, they accused Aliyu of failing to pay his annual party subscription fee, another requirement outlined by the party’s constitution.

“It is on record that he engaged in anti-party activities, failed to mobilize voters, and did not participate in party rallies as required under Section 11, Subsections 1 and 2 of the PDP constitution,” the statement added.
