“Washington-Bound Flight Turns Back” — United Airlines Emergency Landing Injures 38 In Lagos

According to Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the aircraft, which departed Lagos at 11:59 PM Thursday, was forced to return and landed safely at 3:22 AM on Friday.

The flight carried 245 adult passengers and 11 crew members.

The Boeing 787-8 flight was en route to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), in the United States, from Lagos.

CASUALTIES AND RESPONSE:
– 4 passengers and 2 crew members sustained serious injuries
– 27 passengers and 5 crew members reported minor injuries
– Injured passengers were transported to MMA Clinic and FAAN Headquarters Clinic
– Those with serious injuries were later transferred to Duchess Hospital, Ikeja
– Passengers with minor injuries received first aid and were discharged

Emergency response teams, including Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services, Aviation Medical, and Aviation Security personnel, were already positioned at Gate D31 when the aircraft landed. The plane was successfully evacuated at 3:37 AM.

FAAN reported that some uninjured passengers were provided hotel accommodation, and the aircraft did not sustain any major damage.
