The 2025 NWFL Super Six Premiership kicked off in thrilling fashion on Saturday as Nasarawa Amazons, Bayelsa Queens and Remo Stars Ladies all secured opening-day victories in Ikenne, Footynaija.com reports.

Supporters at the Remo Stars Stadium were treated to late goals, comebacks and penalty drama in a high-stakes Matchday 1 as the race for the number one prize in women football in the country kicked off in style.

Nasarawa Amazons edge North Central derby with spirited comeback

The action began with a feisty North Central derby as Nasarawa Amazons took on Naija Ratels, both sides having finished third in their respective regular-season groups. The Lafia-based Amazons secured a comeback 2-1 win over Naija Ratels.

Naija Ratels struck early through Rita Tsebee to take a deserved lead, but the Amazons refused to wilt. Jenat Akekeromowei levelled just before half-time, shifting the momentum. The second half saw Nasarawa ramp up the pressure, and their persistence paid off in the 55th minute when Josephine Mathias calmly slotted home the winner to complete the comeback and clinch a vital three points for the Solid Babes.

Bayelsa Queens outlast Rivers Angels in heavyweight showdown

Bayelsa Queens, unbeaten in the regular season and Group B leaders, continued their strong form with a narrow but deserved 1-0 victory over arch-rivals Rivers Angels — seven-time league champions.

Alaba Olabiyi gave Bayelsa the edge in the 34th minute with a well-taken finish.

Rivers Angels had a golden chance to respond early in the second half after being awarded a penalty, but Ifeoma Ikenokwalu’s effort was denied by goalkeeper Omini Mobile, who pulled off a crucial save to preserve the lead and help the Queens hold on for three valuable points.

Remo Stars stun defending champions Edo Queens with late winner

The final game of the day saw hosts Remo Stars Ladies face reigning champions Edo Queens in a tightly contested affair that lived up to its billing.

Edo controlled possession but struggled to break down a disciplined Remo backline.

The deadlock remained until late in the second half when teenage sensation Olasubomi Ogundele rose to the occasion, scoring directly from a corner to hand the Sky Blue Stars a dramatic victory and a dream start to their Super Six campaign.
