Wayne Rooney has urged Manchester United to make a bold summer move for Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen, insisting the Napoli forward is the ideal No.9 to lead the Red Devils’ frontline next season, Footynaija.com reports.

United’s all-time leading goalscorer, speaking to Amazon Sport, named Osimhen among three players he believes the club must sign to get back on track following a turbulent campaign.

Ruben Amorim’s side are poised to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League table but still have a shot at silverware in the Europa League final.

I’d probably sign David De Gea — Manchester United have missed him, and I think he could still do a very good job. Victor Osimhen as a number 9. He is a very good striker and he is available. Also Marc Guéhi from Palace,” said Rooney, who recently managed Plymouth.

Osimhen is also on the radar of Chelsea and Juventus, but United’s interest may be affected by the striker’s growing affection for Galatasaray, where he is currently on loan.

The 26-year-old delivered an emotional message to the Turkish giants, fuelling speculation of a summer exit.

Galatasaray will forever be in my heart,” Osimhen said. “I’m enjoying myself here, the fans have been incredibly supportive, and everyone at the club has helped me from day one.”

The Nigerian’s loan spell ends this summer, and although he is due back at Napoli, his next permanent move is being hotly anticipated. Galatasaray are desperate to keep him, with fans urging him to stay beyond this season.

The club plan a spectacular celebration should they clinch the title against Kayserispor on Sunday — with fireworks, concerts, and a crowd of up to one million at Yenikapı Square — all in a bid to convince Osimhen to stay.

The prolific forward has scored 36 goals and provided eight assists in 40 games, breaking the Turkish top-flight record for most goals in a single season.
