A chieftain of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Abdulmumin Jibrin, has stated that Northerners often gang up against politicians from the region.
Naijaonpoint reports that the member of the House of Representatives made this known during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
According to Jibrin, President Bola Tinubu is likely unbothered by those declaring their intentions to challenge him in the 2027 general election because of the disunity among northern politicians.
He said, “What we’ve always done, if anybody rises up in the north, we gang up to bring the person down. This is what has been happening. And I’m pretty sure those who said they are going to contest, or even to be specific, the Bola Tinubu that some are saying they are going to contest against, or defeat him, must be smiling because he can see how disunited we are.”
Speaking further, Jubril recalled how former Vice President Atiku Abubakar clashed with then-President Olusegun Obasanjo, partly due to opposition from northern politicians who resisted his attempt at regional leadership.
Jibrin added that former Vice President, Namadi Sambo and current Vice President, Kashim Shettima, had also faced similar challenges from the region.
