The national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has declared that he would only consider aligning with a political party ahead of the 2027 general elections if the party offers him either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot.
Naijaonpoint reports that Kwankwaso made this disclosure while addressing supporters at a Kwankwasiyya gathering at his residence in Miller Road, Kano, where he discussed the ongoing political realignments in the lead-up to the next general elections.
Kwankwaso said, “At the national level, we are looking for a political party to align with. But it must be a party that will offer me either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot.”
His comments come amidst growing speculation surrounding the political future of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, who has been rumoured to be considering a defection from the NNPP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reacting to the rumours about Yusuf’s alleged defection, Kwankwaso dismissed the reports, describing them as nothing but a dream.
He firmly rejected the notion, asserting that it was unrealistic and would not materialize.
The former governor of Kano State also took a swipe at the political style of President Bola Tinubu, criticizing the notion that numerical strength within a political party directly correlates with electoral success.
According to Kwankwaso, simply having a large number of governors on the APC platform does not guarantee victory at the polls. He stressed that credibility, popular support, and performance are the critical factors that determine the outcome of elections.
