‘We Have Been Paying Her Medical Bills’ – Dangote Reacts As Phyna’s Sister, Ruth Otabor Dies

The Dangote Group has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Ruth Otabor, who was injured in a recent road crash involving one of the company’s trucks in Auchi, Edo State.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the company extended condolences to the deceased’s family and pledged to strengthen its safety systems.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Ruth Otabor, who was injured in the recent road incident involving one of our trucks in Auchi, Edo State. On behalf of the entire Dangote Group, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time,” the statement read.

Medical Efforts and Support for Victim’s Family

The company noted that since the accident, its officials and insurance partners had taken responsibility for all medical and financial expenses while providing support to Ruth’s family.

It disclosed that arrangements had been concluded to fly her to India for advanced treatment, pending medical clearance from doctors.

“Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth’s brave fight to live, we lost her today,” Dangote stated.

The Group reiterated its commitment to safety and compassion in its operations, stressing that measures would be taken to prevent such tragedies in the future.

“At Dangote Group, safety, accountability, and compassion remain at the core of our operations. We remain committed to strengthening our safety systems and supporting those affected in moments of tragedy. May God grant her mercy and eternal rest,” read the statement signed by the company’s management on August 31, 2025.
