The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, has urged officers to remain vigilant and unrelenting in response to what she described as Nigeria’s multifaceted security challenges.
Nandap gave the charge on Monday during the decoration ceremony of 38 newly promoted comptrollers at the service headquarters in Abuja.
Congratulating the officers on their elevation, she said professional competence must be matched with strong leadership attributes at the advanced stage of their careers.
She said: “Considering the current security challenges our nation faces, we must remain vigilant and unrelenting in the fight against multifaceted threats.
“Your actions will set the tone, and your conduct will continue to reflect the core values and reputation of this service.”
Nandap warned that the NIS would not tolerate indolence or unprofessional conduct, urging officers to embrace innovation, adapt to emerging challenges and place the interest of the service above personal considerations.
She clarified that promotion in the service is “neither automatic nor solely a function of years in service”, noting that career progression is earned through sustained dedication, integrity and commitment to duty.
“This administration is focused on reforms and transformation, and you are the drivers of these reforms,” she added.
The Comptroller-General also commended President Bola Tinubu for what she described as his visionary leadership and commitment to institutional reforms and national security.
She praised the minister of interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for providing strategic direction and strengthening the operational capacity of the service.
According to her, the ongoing transformation within the NIS reflects the administration’s determination to strengthen security institutions.
Addressing the families of the promoted officers, Nandap thanked them for their patience and support, describing their role as instrumental to the officers’ professional journeys.
