The National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ajuji Ahmed, has dismissed speculations that the party is secretly negotiating with President Bola Tinubu or the Presidency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in an interview, Ahmed stressed that the NNPP remains fully independent and focused on strengthening its structures nationwide.
According to him, “I can tell you for free that the national leader of the NNPP is not romancing or making any conversation with either the President or with the Presidency and that is a genuine statement, not a political one.”
Ahmed maintained that the NNPP is not seeking political alliances to secure Kano State in 2027, insisting that the electorate will determine the outcome.
He argued that aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would undermine the party’s prospects.
“I don’t believe that because we want to be successful, we have to join the APC. We believe that joining the APC will guarantee our failure in Kano,” he told The Nation.
The NNPP chairman explained that the party’s long-term goal is to expand across the country and compete strongly for the presidency.
He claimed that outside the APC, the NNPP is the only political platform with a truly functional structure across states and local governments.
According to him, the party remains open to all aspirants interested in contesting its 2027 presidential ticket.
Although he acknowledged the influence of former Kano Governor, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, he emphasized that party decisions will not revolve around a single individual.
“He is not the deciding factor. The deciding factor is the NWC of the party. And he knows that and he will respect that,” Ahmed said.
Reacting to suggestions that the APC may be fueling conflicts in opposition parties, Ahmed disagreed, saying internal weaknesses are the real cause of such turmoil.
He noted that no external force can destabilise a well-organised political party.
According to him, “whatever party is in crisis, it is in crisis due to its own internal contradictions.”
He said if parties like the PDP and Labour Party were internally united, “no outside force could break them into three different pieces or two broad pieces.”
‘We Prefer Silence, PDP Prefers Noise’
Looking ahead, Ahmed said the future appears uncertain for the PDP and Labour Party, while the NNPP is deliberately keeping a low profile.
In his words, “We prefer to be silent than to be noisy like PDP because they are noisy for all the wrong reasons. And we are silent for all the right reasons.”
He added that the NNPP will unveil its plans at the right time, and critics will eventually understand the party’s quiet strategy.
“You will come here again and say to me, you told me so,” he said confidently.
