We recovered over N13b misappropriated funds in September 2024 – ICPC

ICPC Chairman Musa Aliyu revealed this today at the launch of the commission’s 2024-2028 strategic action plan in Abuja.

He highlighted the commission’s persistent efforts to fulfil its anti-corruption mandate but did not specify the source of the recovered funds.

“Over the past year, we have made substantial strides in executing our mandate. For instance, in September 2024, we recovered more than ₦13 billion in diverted public funds. This is just one example of our relentless commitment,” Aliyu said.

Aliyu also announced the commission’s digitalisation initiative, aimed at enhancing its use of technology to fight corruption.

“We are undergoing ICT reforms to digitalise our operations, making investigations, case management, and internal processes more efficient. This transformation will position the Commission as a leader in using technology to stay ahead of corruption in the digital age,” he said.

Additionally, Aliyu spoke about developing a specialised curriculum to enhance the skills of ICPC personnel in handling corruption cases with professionalism and efficiency.

He further noted efforts to decentralise anti-corruption initiatives by empowering state governments through collaboration with State Attorneys General, ensuring local-level corruption is addressed effectively.

Emphasising a proactive approach, Aliyu stated that the ICPC has ramped up efforts to identify institutional vulnerabilities through System Studies and Corruption Risk Assessments.

He also highlighted the commission’s engagement with Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units (ACTUs) within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to strengthen grassroots monitoring efforts.
