“We will not be intimidated” – Every Word from Mozambique captain Elias Pelembe ahead of Super Eagles clash

Mozambique captain Elias Pelembe has vowed that his team is ready to fight the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Soccernet.ng reports.

With a historic first victory over the Super Eagles within reach, Pelembe insisted that Mozambique’s mindset is focused, and the squad is prepared to give their all on the pitch.

The Mambas, buoyed by a shocking 3–2 victory over Gabon, now look ahead to a similar outcome against a side that cruised through the group stage with a perfect nine points and eight goals scored.

What Mozambique captain said vs Super Eagles

Speaking ahead of the match, as observed by Soccernet.ng, the captain emphasised that despite Nigeria’s strength, his team is undaunted.

“The group’s mindset is very good. We want once again to show what we are worth, and we have this opportunity against an opponent of Nigeria’s caliber. It is just another match: we will give our best. We are ready for the fight,” Pelembe said.

Pelembe stressed that Mozambique will compete fully from start to finish.

“We will fight until the end on the pitch. We know the journey to get here has not been easy. Dreaming costs nothing,” he added.

Age Is Just a Number – Elias Pelembe

The 34-year-old forward also reflected on his personal approach to the game.

“I don’t think about my age. I go onto the field to enjoy myself. God has given us the opportunity to achieve our first victory and, at the same time, qualify,” he explained.

A Battle on Equal Terms

Pelembe concluded by emphasising that the match is about determination.

“I keep repeating to the players that it is just another match and we must compete. Nigeria will come with all its strength, but we will not be intimidated. Football is played over 90 minutes, and we are here to compete,” he said.

Mozambique will be hoping to challenge Nigeria and possibly make history by securing their first win over the Super Eagles in AFCON when they face off at the Complexe Sportif de Fes this night at 8:00 pm Nigerian time.
