Business mogul and social influencer, Obi Cubana, has reacted to the heightened tensions across the country following the conviction and sentencing of IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, urging Nigerians—especially the Igbo community—to remain calm as critical efforts continue behind the scenes to secure his release.
In a detailed statement, Obi Cubana expressed deep concern over the series of troubling national events in recent days, ranging from Nigeria’s designation by the United States as a “country of particular concern,” to multiple kidnappings across states—including Kebbi, Kwara, and Niger—as well as the killing of a Brigadier General and the escalating public outcry over insecurity.
He disclosed that in the last three months, he and other stakeholders held strategic meetings with key government figures, including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, and the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu. According to him, the discussions focused on insecurity, Nigeria’s tax regime, ease of doing business, and possible political solutions to secure Nnamdi Kanu’s freedom.
My dear brothers and sisters, this is no time to further divide us. Many people have been tirelessly working behind the scenes, devoting time and resources to ensure our brother Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is free and reunited with us,” he said.
Obi Cubana emphasized that the emotional temperature across Igbo communities is high but reminded the public that unity and constructive engagement remain key.
He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to “heed the cry of the people” by facilitating Kanu’s release, stressing that peace remains elusive in the South-East until the issue is resolved.
One thing is clear: no Igbo man or woman will have peace if MNK does not regain his freedom, and Ala Igbo will never be the same again. We all want him out, and we will never rest until he is out,” he added.
