Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has unveiled plans to procure drones and additional logistics to strengthen surveillance and rapid-response operations across communities bordering Katsina, where bandit attacks have intensified in recent months.
Naijaonpoint reports that the measure was announced in a statement on Wednesday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, Yusuf disclosed this during an assessment tour of three Joint Task Force bases in Tsanyawa and Shanono Local Government Areas, both of which recently suffered coordinated bandit incursions.
The governor’s visit follows months of escalating tension along the Kano-Katsina corridor, with repeated incursions by armed groups leaving residents in fear and prompting reinforced multi-agency deployments.
Yusuf said the state government was taking decisive steps to prevent further bloodshed.
“We are aware that they have been attacking innocent communities, especially here in Tsanyawa and Shanono Local Government Areas. Many innocent lives were taken away, and many innocent people were also sent to the bush,” he said.
He added that the state would soon acquire drones and supporting logistics “for surveillance and rapid response to protect inhabitants of the border areas.”
The governor appealed to residents of the affected communities to support security personnel by providing actionable intelligence on bandit movements.
He also revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had responded positively when briefed on the worsening situation and the need for federal backing.
Yusuf charged JTF operatives to intensify efforts to rescue residents kidnapped in the recent attacks.
“I assure you that by God’s grace, those who were kidnapped will be brought back to their families,” he said.
The governor noted that his visit was aimed at getting first-hand knowledge of the situation, interacting directly with operatives, and encouraging them to remain committed to the ongoing operations.
Describing the recent incidents as unprecedented, Yusuf said: “This type of insecurity in Kano State is something new; it is something alien that has just been observed in the state, and the government is doing its best to address the situation with the cooperation of security agencies.”
He assured the troops that his administration would continue to provide welfare support to security personnel working at the frontline.
During the assessment tour, the governor met families of kidnapped victims and condoled with them, assuring them that ongoing efforts to secure the release of their loved ones were being intensified.
Naijaonpoint learnt that recent attacks in the two councils resulted in the abduction of between five and ten persons, while a woman was killed in one of the incidents.
