Christantus Uche rejected a transfer to Wolves, but circumstances might make him leave Getafe before the transfer window closes….

Getafe president Angel Torres has admitted that they might be forced to sell Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche before the summer transfer window closes on Monday, Soccernet.ng reports.

The last few days have been quite eventful at Getafe, and Uche has been at the center of it all.

The Nigerian joined Los Azulones for just €500k last year, and he has exploded. Last season, he contributed four goals and six assists in 33 La Liga appearances.

His gritty style of play with a mix of technicality made him a key asset in coach Jose Bordalas’ setup.

Before the end of last season, Uche had even started gaining attention from clubs. But this summer, clubs like Atletico Madrid, Brentford, Everton, and Sunderland have been linked with the 22-year-old. But none of them has made a move yet.

Nonetheless, Wolverhampton Wanderers took the initiative and opened negotiations with Getafe for Uche earlier this week.

The transfer seemed done and dusted, but it later collapsed, as Wolves were unwilling to meet Uche’s personal terms.

Following the collapse of the Wolves deal, the Super Eagles striker has now been linked with other clubs like AC Milan and Como.

Nonetheless, amid all the drama surrounding Uche, coach Jose Bordalas has kept on starting him. The Super Eagles star even started in their 3-0 loss at Sevilla.

Christantus Uche Is The Answer To Getafe’s Boardroom Issues

While Christantus Uche has been delivering on the pitch, it appears that Getafe need him to deliver off the pitch now by leaving the club.

The major reason why the Nigerian’s future is up in the air in the first instance, is because Getafe have not registered some of their first-team players.

Los Azulones have played all three of the league games with a bench dominated by academy players.

The club can’t do register their first team stars due to La Liga’s financial rules. So they must make a significant sale this summer.

Unfortunately for them, Uche is their biggest asset and the only one who can fetch them a decent sum this summer.

Before Getafe’s game against Valencia on Friday, the club president Angel Torres confirmed that the board will make a final decision on how to navigate past their inability to register players today, Saturday.

However, he hinted that selling Uche is definitely one of the foremost options on their list.

“We need to sell a player to be able to register the seven players we have left. It could be Uche or it could be someone else… We’ll decide tomorrow. It’s going to be a tough weekend,” Torres said, per Cope.

Can Uche Still Leave Getafe This Summer?

As it stands Uche has many options available. He still has admirers from the Premier League and the Serie A.

The Super Eagles star is also quite affordable at around €20 million. So, even with just over 36 hours left before the transfer window closes, a club can still swoop in for him.
