The founder of TAF Africa, Jake Epelle, has expressed displeasure over the fresh political tension rising in Rivers State.
Naijaonpoint recalls that the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, alongside 15 other lawmakers, recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The latest development comes barely three months after peace was brokered between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and House of Assembly members.
In an interview on ‘The Morning Brief’, a programme on Channels Television, Epelle described the ongoing political situation in Rivers State as disgraceful.
According to him, President Bola Tinubu must intervene in the situation, adding that the state cannot afford another state of emergency.
He said, “For lack of a better word, this is disgraceful. This is political meandering. This is an absolute aberration of democracy. But beyond that, we are seeing the signal of crisis brewing again.
“They have made nonsense of the Supreme Court judgment that says they didn’t defect, and sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you can hide the truth, but you cannot cover the truth forever.
“It is playing out the kind of dirty politics that these individuals are playing, and unfortunately, it is the common people that are going to suffer it. We are seeing another set of trouble beginning to raise its ugly head, and I think the President must step in now, because there will be no other state of emergency. We’ve had too much of this nonsense, and it cannot continue that way.”
