President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians living in Saint Lucia that his administration’s significant reforms are stabilizing the country and reviving investor confidence. According to a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu made the remarks during an interactive session with members of the Nigerian community on Wednesday.
Tinubu revealed that when he assumed office, Nigeria was near bankruptcy, but his administration has been able to rescue the economy. “We inherited a country that was near bankruptcy. But we have been able to rescue the economy. Nigeria has recovered,” he said.
The President acknowledged that Nigeria’s per capita income remains low but emphasized that the government is implementing policies to drive inclusive growth and long-term economic stability. He urged Nigerians living abroad to remain focused, consistent, and hardworking, assuring them that the government will not abandon them.
During the session, members of the diaspora raised concerns about the high cost of work permits and the absence of a Nigerian diplomatic mission in Saint Lucia. Tinubu responded by affirming that steps were already being taken to address the matter diplomatically.
The meeting was organized by the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who hailed the positive contributions Nigerians are making in Saint Lucia and encouraged them to maintain strong ties to their homeland.
