Special Assistant to the Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, Asorta James, has mocked the former governor of the state, Samuel Ortom, over the incident that occurred at the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Naijaonpoint reports that in a video that emerged online, Ortom, a member of the PDP faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, was chased out of a Stakeholders’ meeting at the secretariat on Tuesday.
In the viral video, the Tanimu Turaki-led faction could be heard telling Ortom to leave the hall.
Voices were heard saying, “Let him out, who is he? This is not your PDP,” as Ortom made his way into the hall amid the power struggle between factions within the party.
Reacting to the incident, Asorta, in a post on his Facebook page, described the incident as disgraceful.
He wrote, “WHAT A DISGRACE TO FMR. GOV. ORTOM
“The way Samuel Ortom was driven out the PDP national secretariat by supporters of the party was shameful. Na so e don reach? TYOTOM!”
Naijaonpoint had earlier reported that the PDP secretariat in Wadata Plaza became the centre of intense rivalry on Tuesday as two factions attempted to assert dominance.
On one side were Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, alongside the newly elected National Secretary, Taofeek Arapaja, and other leaders emerging from the Oyo State national convention held over the weekend.
On the other side stood the Wike-backed bloc, led by Samuel Anyanwu, the embattled National Secretary who insists that his tenure remains valid until December 8, 2025.
The Wike camp has refused to recognise the outcome of the Ibadan convention, describing it as illegitimate.
Tensions escalated earlier on Tuesday when Governor Makinde arrived at the party headquarters with Arapaja and other party stakeholders. Their presence was seen as a symbolic assertion of control by the newly elected leadership.
