Scotland fans will be hoping they get to see plenty of John McGinn’s goggles celebration at Euro 2024.
The Aston Villa midfielder’s now famous post-goal gesture will be copied up and down Scotland should he help the Tartan Army have a great tournament in Germany.

It’s a fun celebration from McGinn, but it’s actually got a really nice reason behind it.
What is John McGinn’s goggles celebration and why does he do it?
The celebration itself is relatively straightforward.
When McGinn scores, he joins his thumb and the closest finger together to form a circle.
He then flips his hands around and puts the circles to his eyes, forming goggles.
The celebration is dedicated to McGinn’s nephew, who has poor eyesight and requires goggles to play football.
Speaking about it in an interview, he said: “My nephew, he’s got poor eyesight, and he has to wear the goggles to play football.
“So, I decided it would maybe give him a bit of support to put the goggles on when I score.

“So, now he’s happy, his teammates at football up in Scotland carry on the celebration, and I’m sure that hopefully inspires a lot of children.
“A lot of people I played with when I was younger had to wear the goggles, and when you’re younger, it’s difficult.
“You feel socially kind of out of it, but it’s just a wee thing, a nod to Jack, and now it’s just kind of stuck.
“So, hopefully, if I’m scoring, I’m getting the goggles out.”

Goals haven’t been a problem for McGinn for club or country for a long time.
For the Tartan Army, he has 17 goals, while for Villa he scored nine in all competitions this season, which means we saw the goggles dedicated to his nephew plenty of times.
In an age where a lot of footballers choose gimmicky celebrations, it’s refreshing to see McGinn go for this wholesome approach instead.
Scotland get their Euro 2024 campaign underway against Germany tonight, live on talkSPORT, with McGinn eyeing a goal in the opening game of the tournament.
