SS Lazio manager Marco Baroni has lauded Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s characteristics after the Nigerian midfielder found the net in the club’s 1-1 draw with Atalanta on Saturday night, Soccernet.football reports.

Serie A leaders Atalanta were looking for their 12th straight league win but Dele-Bashiru and teammates came within four minutes of securing a memorable victory over the Europa League holders.

Dele-Bashiru handed Lazio the lead in the 27th minute with a smart half-volley after racing to a fine overhead pass from Castellanos. It was only his second Serie A goal of the campaign and his fourth strike since joining Lazio in the summer on loan from Turkish side Hatayspor.

Lazio held on to that advantage until the 86th minute when Africa Player of the Year Ademola Lookman set up Marco Brescianini to net the equaliser.

Despite dropping two points from a winning position, Lazio boss Baroni was impressed with the contribution of Dele-Bashiru and the quality the Super Eagles star brings to the team.

“Dele-Bashiru attacks the depth; he has pace,” Baroni said, as per SosFanta.

He added: “Dele-Bashiru? I know very well that he will give us a big hand, he is growing and he is a player with an important leg. In the second half, we need to have more quality in the dribbling; maybe we lacked that. I am happy, even if I would have liked to take it to the end.”

Despite Dele-Bashiru’s brilliance on the night, Atalanta forward Lookman was named the winner of the man-of-the-match award.
