‘What You Sow Is What You Reap’ – Ex-Minister Speaks On Obasa’s Impeachment

Former Minister of Communications, Tajudeen Olanrewaju has described Mudashiru Obasa’s impeachment as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly as a classic case of the “Law of Karma.”

In a statement released by his Media Office, Olanrewaju accused Obasa of overstepping political boundaries and ignoring repeated warnings about the pitfalls of power.

Olanrewaju asserted that Obasa’s downfall was inevitable, citing the “Law of Karma” as a force that cannot be escaped.

“Karma is both action and the consequences of that action, it is cause and effect simultaneously, because every action generates a force of energy that returns to us in like kind. There is nothing unfamiliar about the Law of Karma. Everybody has heard the expression, What you sow is what you reap.” he said.

He added that Obasa’s choices while in power reflected arrogance and a lack of foresight.

“The choices that the former speaker Obasa made while on his exalted seat were that he overstepped his political boundary in many ways. Politicians, while playing their political ping pong game of arrogance and seeking more power in search of a dynastic crown, particularly in Lagos State, they ignored the slippery ground.” Olanrewaju said.

Obasa Ignored Warnings

Naijaonpoint reports that Olanrewaju revealed that he had advised Obasa against seeking a third term as Speaker, urging him to step aside for an indigene of Lagos State.

“I warned him not to contest for the Speaker’s position for the third time and to yield ... to an indigene. Obasa is an Ogun State indigene, and constitutionally, one cannot claim two states of origin. His refusal to heed this advice was the beginning of his fall,” Olanrewaju stated.

He accused Obasa of undermining the “IBILE indigenous people of Lagos State” and prioritising his ambitions over the interests of Lagosians.

Reflecting on the political dynamics in Lagos State, Olanrewaju said Obasa’s impeachment was a cautionary tale for power-hungry politicians who disregard accountability.

“When non-indigenes dominate the political space without regard for the sons and daughters of the state, it leads to discontent and imbalance. The lesson here is to empower the IBILE indigenous people who can manage the state better,” he said.

Olanrewaju also hinted at a broader reckoning in Lagos politics, warning that Obasa’s fate could befall others who fail to respect political boundaries.

Obasa, who served as Speaker since 2015, was impeached on Monday over allegations of gross misconduct, corruption, and abuse of office. His removal has sparked widespread reactions, with many describing it as a turning point in Lagos politics.
