WhatsApp is revamping its image attachment page UI

Recent findings suggest that WhatsApp will get a new UI for its image attachment page. This way, the company continues with the aesthetic renovation that they have been carrying out in the app for months.

The discovery comes from AssembleDebug in X. According to the report, WhatsApp is testing a new image attachment page that seeks to speed things up when sending multimedia. The main idea is to eliminate the two-tab UI in favor of a single vertical feed that displays your images.

The new image attachment page UI that WhatsApp is testing

The current image attachment page appears when, within a chat, you tap on the “clip” button and then on “Gallery” to send an image. This displays a UI with two tabs: “Recents” and “Gallery.” The first shows the latest pictures you have downloaded, edited, or taken, while the second shows all your image folders individually for you to explore.

In the new UI under test, the two tabs no longer exist. Now, there’s a single vertical scrolling feed that shows first your image folders and then the “Recent” images. The change is available in the latest WhatsApp beta update (2.24.9.20), although it is not final. The source notes that the UI still needs refinement before a final implementation. Therefore, it could undergo significant changes during development.

For example, a change that could be useful is to better place “Recent” images. This current tab is quite useful to quickly send an image that you have just downloaded, edited, or taken with your camera. Now, image folders have priority by appearing first. So, in its current state, the UI may require more taps or scrolls than before in certain cases.

With these kinds of tweaks, the massive redesign of the WhatsApp UI continues. So many changes in recent months may even be “shocking” for some. However, these are done for the sake of a better and more modern user experience (when done well).
