According To Our Reporter, political analyst Jide Ojo has sparked fresh debate on opposition politics ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 election, revealing a sharp contrast between Atiku Abubakar’s and Peter Obi’s defections to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Ojo noted that unlike Obi—who was backed by several Southeast senators, House members, and State Assembly officials upon his December 31, 2025 defection—Atiku’s earlier move to ADC didn’t attract serving lawmakers or governors.
Ojo explained that intense competition, especially within the opposition coalition, and internal party dynamics like indirect primaries heavily influenced loyalties. He argued Obi’s grassroots appeal and political momentum have energized the Southeast, but cautioned that financial muscle and delegate influence, where Atiku has the edge, could sway the ADC primaries.
