Special Adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, has slammed President Bola Tinubu’s aide, Bayo Onanuga, for dragging the late former President Muhammadu Buhari into a propaganda war.
Naijaonpoint reports that this comes after an 𝕏 user shared a video of a massive crowd at Buhari’s campaign rally in Ibadan, suggesting the late former president had widespread support beyond the North.
Onanuga responded to ... and wrote, “A video to rejig the memory of those who claimed only Buhari’s 12 million votes gave him the presidency in 2015 and 2019.”
The remark drew criticism from several netizens who accused Onanuga of downplaying the role of northern votes in Muhammadu Buhari’s 2015 and 2019 presidential victories.
Others also asserted that it was disrespectful and poorly timed, especially as the country continues to mourn the passing of the former president, who died on Sunday in London after a prolonged illness.
However, Onanuga deleted the tweet without explanation.
Reacting to the development, Shaibu criticised Onanuga, asking if Buhari was so irrelevant, why is Tinubu’s government still trembling at his shadow and his 12million votes.
Atiku’s aide also stated that Tinubu has failed and that his ‘renewed hope’ has become ‘renewed hunger’.
He said, “@aonanuga1956, this is how low the Tinubu presidency has sunk: Fighting ghosts, because it can’t face Nigerians. Blaming a dead man, because the living one in Aso Rock is clueless. If @MBuhari was so irrelevant, why is your presidency still trembling at his shadow and his 12million votes ? Why are you dragging his corpse into a propaganda war just to defend a regime choking under its own incompetence?
“Let’s be honest: Tinubu has failed in record time.
“His “renewed hope” is now renewed hunger.
“And his legacy is already hiding behind the coffin of his predecessor.
“This isn’t governance. It’s a circus of insecurity, where those in charge panic at the truth, and lash out at the dead, because they’ve lost control of the living. The Tinubu presidency can’t tame inflation, can’t stop the naira from bleeding, can’t keep the lights on or salaries paid, but has time to launch a PR war against a dead man.
“A government that’s losing the living is now picking fights with the dead. If this is the best @officialABAT’s media team can offer, then we truly have no leadership, only loud bitterness masking quiet failure. Let’s stop pretending: no presidential aide attacks a former head of state, who isn’t even buried, without clearance from the top.
“If @officialABAT didn’t approve the gutter-level assault on Buhari’s legacy, let him prove it: sack @aonanuga1956 now. Otherwise, Nigerians will know this isn’t just indiscipline. It’s a cowardly hit job signed by the President himself.”
