The Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, on Tuesday revealed why he could not attend the University of Ibadan despite his desire to further his education at the institution.

Naijaonpoint reports that Ladoja explained that when he sought admission in 1966, the Faculty of Technology had not yet been established, which frustrated his ambition to study the course of his choice.

The monarch-in-waiting made the remark when the principal officers of the university, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, paid him a courtesy visit at his residence.

Ladoja commended the institution for maintaining its leadership position despite the proliferation of universities across the country.

“No matter the number of universities springing up, the University of Ibadan has remained the best in Nigeria. It is the pride of academia and indeed of Ibadan people,” he said.

The Olubadan-designate also urged the university to harness the strength of other research institutes in the ancient city.

“If UI collaborates more closely with the various research institutes in Ibadan, it will enhance the fulfilment of its mandate and further benefit our people,” he added.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adebowale, reiterated that the institution owes its foundation and progress to the generosity of the Ibadan people.

He assured that the university will continue to partner with the people of the ancient city in all areas of human endeavours.
