Nigerian singer Sola Allyson has spoken about her journey from Islam to Christianity, describing how different phases of her childhood shaped her path.
Naijaonpoint reports that she shared her story in an interview on Oyinmomo TV, where she recalled growing up between two homes after her parents separated.
She said her early years were spent with her maternal grandmother in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, where she practised Islamic teachings and lived by the routine expected in a Muslim household.
Her story changed when she later moved to Ikorodu, Lagos, to live with her father’s parents.
There, she reunited with an old friend who always took her along to church.
Allyson said this period exposed her to a new environment, new ideas, and a different way of worship.
She also spoke warmly about her Islamic background, saying that she has never hidden her birth name, Rasheedat.
She said she looked up the meaning of the name as a child and loved what it stood for.
While narrating her movements from one home to another, she explained that her spiritual journey was shaped by the people she lived with.
In Ijebu-Ode, she followed the Muslim way of life. In Ikorodu, she found herself surrounded by Christians and naturally joined their activities.
According to her, she has explored different beliefs over time through reading and personal experiences.
She added that for her, discovering God’s will is more important than staying tied to one religion.
She said she relates freely with people of different faiths because she grew up in mixed environments.
Allyson recalled that her music career took a clear direction on January 17, 1997, after she attended a music training session at a Celestial Church of Christ.
