Former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Olujimi, has opened up on why she dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to making and sustaining tough decisions.

Speaking on TVC’s Beyond the Headlines, Olujimi described her PDP journey as initially exciting but later “very torturous and problematic,” saying it became necessary to “move on and re-energise.”

“The PDP journey was a very long journey. It was pleasurable at first, but then it became very torturous and very problematic.

“It was time to move on. It was time to re-energise. It was time to reorder priorities,” she said.

The former Senate Minority Leader praised the APC-led government for sticking to tough policy decisions despite public criticism, contrasting it with past administrations that “dispensed with such decisions at the slightest public outcry.”

“I have always been a proponent of government taking very tough decisions and standing behind those tough decisions.

“This is the first time I will see a government take tough decisions, stand by it, and run with it. That is the reason for which I have decided to pitch my tent,” Olujimi explained.

Olujimi expressed confidence that Tinubu’s reforms are gradually improving the country’s economic outlook.

She said, “All those tough decisions that we’re taking are yielding fruit gradually, and it’s easing up.

“I believe that if all hands are on deck, and all competencies are brought to bear on what is on ground, the best will be given to Nigeria. And I know that President Bola Tinubu is doing that right now.”

On her relationship with former Ekiti Governor, Ayodele Fayose, Olujimi said they are both committed to ensuring continuity of governance at the state and federal levels.

She said, “What is important is that we’re working towards the same goal.

“The goal is to get the president to continue with his good works and ensure that a second term is given to him.

“The governor of Ekiti should also continue the humility and extreme commitment he has to the state. If both of us can achieve that, we would have done well.”

Olujimi dismissed suggestions that her defection was driven by personal gain, insisting her decision was motivated by the desire to serve and add value to the APC.

“I have come to add my voice and add value to the party. I’ve come to work hard for the party. Whatever comes along the way will just be God’s doing. That’s the way I am,” she added.
