Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has revealed that his decision to focus on his personal life after years in public service is the reason he rejected the appointment offer from President Bola Tinubu.
Naijaonpoint reports that Fayose made this disclosure on Wednesday while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
The chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said Tinubu had questioned him about what his administration would offer him, but he told him nothing.
According to Fayose, after serving two terms as governor and at age 65, he would rather be more responsible at home and engage in other activities rather than seek a political appointment.
He emphasised that, although he remained on friendly terms with Tinubu, their relationship did not amount to political alignment.
He said, “Have you seen me taking appointment from the APC? Asiwaju asked me, ‘What would we give you?’ I said, ‘Nothing, sir.’ At 65, I’d rather be at home, being more responsible, doing other things that I need to do. I’ve served well. Two-time governor. I’ve done well. Tomorrow will hold itself.”
Also, Fayose has vowed never to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Fayose’s comment comes amid a wave of defections rocking the PDP, with several top members, including governors and lawmakers, recently joining the APC.
Speaking on the issue of defection, Fayose said he does not hide his support for President Bola Tinubu but will never join the APC.
