Why I went for Big Brother Naija – BamBam

In a recent interview, the mother of two said, “One of the major reasons I went on the Big Brother show was because I needed more visibility as a professionally trained actor.”

A graduate of the Royal Arts Academy, BamBam discussed the difficulties of securing acting roles and the often low pay associated with the profession.

“It’s not easy to stand out in this industry because it is very saturated. So, yes, participating in a show like Big Brother gives you an unfair advantage over others,” she admitted.

BamBam also addressed the misconception that reality TV stars prioritize fame over talent. She explained, “What attracts brands to you is your fame. Brands do not want to associate with anyone who doesn’t have significant engagement on their social media platforms. Your social media presence is essentially your work tool that makes brands want to collaborate with you.”

Furthermore, she shared her insights about the economic challenges in Nigeria, comparing her current endorsement earnings to her previous career as a microbiologist. “With what I earn from endorsements, if I had a regular job, that income wouldn’t be enough to sustain my lifestyle monthly. How much are microbiologists currently earning in general hospitals? Even in private hospitals, what is the highest salary they offer?” she questioned.

While expressing gratitude for the opportunities her fame has provided her, BamBam acknowledged the struggle of being typecast solely as a reality TV star. She concluded with advice for others in the industry, saying, “You have to put in the work and trust God to provide opportunities that allow you to showcase yourself beyond just being a reality TV star. It’s really about time and maximizing opportunities.”
