Why North Must Back Tinubu’s Second Term – Barau Reveals

Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, has called on northern Nigerians to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election, saying the region has greatly benefited from his administration’s development initiatives.

Barau made the call on Monday in Kano during the inauguration ceremony of a new federal university, where he commended Tinubu for his “unwavering commitment” to education and human capital development.

According to Barau, Tinubu’s administration has approved the establishment of several universities and higher institutions across northern Nigeria, including the university where the event was held.

“We are here today to celebrate the establishment of this new university and to give financial support to our students,” he said.

“We must also thank President Tinubu, who approved the creation of this university and signed all the necessary laws to make it a reality.”

The Deputy Senate President recalled that the institution was originally a Federal College of Education before being upgraded to a university under former President Goodluck Jonathan.

However, the school’s status was later reversed by the previous administration, a move that, according to Barau, hindered the educational development of the area.

“When I became Deputy Senate President, I took the proposal for the restoration of the university to President Tinubu. Before I could even finish explaining, he immediately gave his approval,” Barau said.

He added that the President also approved that the university be named after the late Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule, Nigeria’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations and one of the region’s most respected statesmen.

One Good Turn Deserves Another – Says Barau

Barau argued that Tinubu’s swift approvals and developmental interventions showed his genuine concern for the progress of northern Nigeria.

He urged the region to reciprocate the gesture by supporting the President’s re-election bid in 2027.

“The North has greatly benefited from President Tinubu’s leadership. One good turn deserves another. We must support him when the time comes,” he said.
