A Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ademola Adeleke, Chief Akintunde Bello Sheriff, has stated that former Osun State Governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, has never won any election without controversy in the state’s political history.
Akintunde made the statement while appearing on the State Affairs programme anchored by Edmund Obilo.
He explained that Oyetola was hesitant to participate in the 2026 governorship race because he was afraid of seeking a fresh mandate against Governor Ademola Adeleke.
According to him, Governor Adeleke enjoys the support of both God and the people of Osun State, noting that Oyetola could not match Adeleke in any electoral contest.
He added that if Oyetola could not match Adeleke politically, none of his allies could do so either.
He recalled that even during the APC governorship primaries in 2018, Oyetola’s emergence was disputed, as the exercise lacked credibility.
He noted that the controversy surrounding the primaries led to the internal crisis within the party and contributed to the rift between Oyetola and his predecessor, Rauf Aregbesola.
Akintunde also stated that a similar situation occurred during the build-up to the 2022 governorship election, where he claimed there was no credible primary election conducted by Oyetola’s party.
