The National Chairman of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Dan Iwuanyanwu, has alleged that some top politicians and businessmen in the Southeast are backing the continued detention of the leader of the Ideginous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Naijaonpoint recalls that the embattled IPOB leader has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his re-arrest in June 2021.

Since then, several political elites, including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, as well as some politicians from the Southeast region, have repeatedly urged the Federal Government to release Nnamdi Kanu.

Following the prolonged detention, human right activist, Omoyele Sowore, renewed call for Kanu’s release as some well meaning Nigerians, including the IPOB leader’s brother and lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, joined him to protest in Abuja on Monday.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Iwuanyanwu claimed that the top politicians and businessmen backing Nnamdi Kanu’s detention are afraid of the love for him.

According to Iwuanyanwu, some people political career will end if Nnamdi Kanu is released.

He said, “There are some top businessmen who are involved in businesses in Abuja, oil and all that.

“There are some top politicians who are of the view and which is correct that if Nnamdi Kanu comes today, there are people whose political career will come to an end permanently without him saying a word. Nnamdi Kanu has been loved by the people”.
