The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu has said that President Bola Tinubu is interested in fighting the trafficking of illicit drugs in Nigeria and its borders.
Ribadu said the president has also committed to strengthening the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) led by General Buba Marwa (retired).
Speaking at the commissioning of 46 new vehicles distributed to strategic commands and formations of NDLEA in Abuja, Ribadu said the president’s committment is strategic to the improvement of Nigeria’s security architecture.
He also commended the chairman of the NDLEA and his team on their ability to commit to transformation across the agency and the nation at large.
According to Ribadu, the president understands that the link between drug trafficking and insecurity is systemic.
He said at such, Tinubu through the Renewed Hope Agenda prioritised the control of drugs as a pillar of Nigeria’s security strategy.
He said, “The President’s unwavering support through funding, inter-agency cooperation, and policy alignment has directly enabled today’s milestone.
“These vehicles will be deployed nationwide to amplify NDLEA’s operational presence, strengthen deterrence, and ensure that no trafficker escapes justice.
“As the lead agency for drug control, arrest, seizure, and investigation and prosecution, NDLEA will continue to receive the full backing of the Office of National Security Adviser, which will also coordinate its efforts with other security and regulatory agencies, including the National Police Force, Nigerian Customs Service, and NAFDAC,” Ribadu noted.
