Why Tinubu’s first year anniversary is low-key – Information minister

The federal government has said the first anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in office on May 29 would be low key.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Malam Mohammed Idris, said this on Wednesday in Abuja at the ministerial media briefing series.

Nigeria’s Democracy Day celebration was being held on May 29 before President Buhari changed it to 12 June in commemoration of the 12 June 1993, presidential election annulled by the military government of Gen Ibrahim Babangida (retd).

It is, however, not clear if the government intends to hold the ceremony on 12 June, the day officially recognised as Democracy Day.

Speaking at the briefing, the minister said the celebration would focus on sectoral debates instead of the usual celebrations.

He also said that the ministerial briefing series will be taking place daily with different ministers briefing on the activities in their sector.

Speaking earlier, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, said the briefings are an invaluable opportunity to reflect on the journey the government embarked upon about a year ago and to share the remarkable progress made under the president’s visionary leadership.
