Wike Announces Takeover of PDP National Headquarter, Including 4,800 Properties Across Abuja

This announcement was made during a joint press briefing on Friday in Abuja by top FCTA officials, acting on behalf of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Among the officials present were Mr. Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media; Mr. Chijioke Nwankwoeze, Director of Land Administration; and Mr. Mukhtar Galadima, Director of Development Control.

The PDP’s headquarters, still under construction in the Central Business District, was specifically identified among the revoked properties. The land title was officially canceled in March due to multiple years of non-payment. “Ownership of the revoked 4,794 properties in the Central Area, Garki, Wuse, Asokoro, Maitama, and Guzape districts has reverted to the FCTA,” officials said, stressing that the action is in accordance with Section 28(5)(a)(b) of the Land Use Act. “This will be carried out without regard to ownership status. The process is governed strictly by applicable laws.” Advertisements According to the FCTA, the total amount of unpaid ground rent exceeds N6.96 billion. Affected property owners were previously granted a 21-day grace period to settle debts of under ten years, which has since expired.

Director of Land Administration Chijioke Nwankwoeze clarified that payment obligations are clearly outlined in the Right of Occupancy agreements, which stipulate that rent is due annually on January 1, regardless of formal demand. “There was no legal restraint against the revocation, and the FCTA remains empowered to act in line with the law,” Nwankwoeze stated

Development Control Director Mukhtar Galadima confirmed that enforcement actions would begin Monday. “Properties will be sealed off and access will be restricted,” he said. The move marks a significant escalation in the FCTA’s ongoing efforts to enforce land regulations in the capital and signals a no-exemption stance, even for Nigeria’s major political institutions.
