Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has issued a fresh ultimatum to property owners across various locations in the territory over alleged violation of the approved land-use provisions.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Lere Olayinka, a media aide to the minister, said Wike issued a 14-day deadline to property owners in Asokoro, Maitama, Garki and Wuse districts to pay a N5m penalty for violating approved land-use provisions.
According to Olayinka, all those affected – for land-use change or the conversion of approved property – are expected to comply with the Minister’s directive between Tuesday, November 11 and November 25, 2025, or be made to face enforcement action from the FCT Administration.
Recall that the Minister had earlier given a 30-day deadline for the payment of the N5 million fine for the violation of the FCT Land Use Act on September 30.
He also approved that payment of a 7.5 per cent charge on the assessed capital value of all properties that were converted by their owners with approval from the FCTA.
However, in the statement, Olayinka said that despite the expiration of the deadline, the minister has approved a final grace period of 14 days for the affected land allottees to do the needful.
Olayinka explained that the property owners are expected to make good use of the grace period to ratify their issue and comply with the approved terms and conditions of land-use regularisation within the FCT.
“The honourable Minister has… approved the issuance of new title documents (Statutory Right of Occupancy and Certificate of Occupancy)… upon fulfilling all necessary conditions,” Olayinka added.
He also noted the Minister’s consideration for the issuance of new title documents does not in any way apply to land titles which have already withdrawn or revoked for non-development, non-payment of ground rent, or other infractions by the FCTA.
